What happens in the world doesn’t stay in the world.

An oil price move in the Gulf, a rate decision in Islamabad or an export pause in China reaches Pakistani businesses through a chain of effects: fuel, freight, financing costs, the rupee, shelf prices. Most news stops at the headline. Knock-On follows the chain.

Diagram: the event (oil jumps on Gulf shipping attacks), first order (diesel and freight costs rise), second order (farm, factory and distribution costs rise), third order (shelf prices, inflation and interest rates).

What we publish

  • The Daily Brief: the morning’s most important developments for Pakistani business, each with one line on why it matters.
  • Analysis: one story at a time, traced through its first, second and third-order effects, with the sectors likely to benefit and those likely to face pressure.
  • What to watch: the next decision, data release or deadline that will tell us how a story develops.

How we work

We report facts from primary sources wherever possible: the State Bank of Pakistan, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, government notifications, company filings and international institutions. We separate what is confirmed from what is analysis, and we label forecasts as forecasts. When we make a prediction, we record it and come back to it, whether we were right or wrong. Read our Editorial Standards & Corrections Policy.

What we are not

Knock-On is not investment advice and does not recommend buying or selling any security. We are independent and not affiliated with any political party.
